Fun and Safe Bath Gear

Dear Dr.MOZ,

Our baby is beginning to outgrow his portable tub which means that we’ll be making the transition to the “big person” tub soon. I was wondering if we really needed the bath safety products I’ve seen online. Our thermostat is already set below 120 degrees, so which (if any) of the bath gizmos do you recommend to help make our bath transition as safe as possible?

Thanks for the help Dr.MOZ!
Jan

Hi Jan,

There are so many great bath products on the market that meet Dr.MOZ’s “healthy dose of fun” requirements, it was really hard to narrow down a small collection. Here are three of my favorite products that are both safe and seriously fun!

Non-Slip Bath Mat with Temperature Alert

Many of the non-skid stickers people use on their bathtub bottoms are too scratchy for your baby, and they don’t provide cushion between the hard tub surface and your baby’s bum. Not only does Kelgar’s Tub-Rug ® provide cushion and a non-slip surface, they also have a temperature bubble that alerts you when the water is too hot. You shouldn’t need this feature considering that you test the water with your hand before each bath (and your thermostat is set to safe levels) , but the extra safety feature is a nice bonus. Available at most Babies’R'Us stores, or purchase one now at BabyAnt.com.

Cushioned Spout
I love the cushioned bath tub spout “flo” by boon for two reasons. The obvious reason is that it protects children from an accidental bump in the noggin while in the bath tub.

The second less obvious reason is that it doesn’t come designed as an animal or cartoon character. This is a bonus because children shouldn’t be drawn to the “business end” of the tub where the faucet handles and the spout are located. You don’t want to train your children to attempt to try and manipulate the water flow, temperature, or give them a chance to bonk their heads. Boon’s Flo is the perfect solution, and Boon products can be found at Village Maternity in the US and Cheeky Monkey Baby and Maternity in Canada.

Bath Toy Organizer
Your bath toy collection is sure to grow now that you are moving to a larger tub, and the Frog Pod also by boon is a terrific way keep them contained. The well-designed scoop allows for easy washing and draining, and you’ll have three attachment options allowing you to choose a safe location to mount the Frog Pod. Boon products can be found at Village Maternity in the US and Cheeky Monkey Baby and Maternity in Canada.

I hope that helps make the transition to the tub a smooth one Jan! If anyone has additional bath gear recommendations for Jan, please add a comment below.

Yours,

Dr.MOZ
