Lütte Leihen Baby Clothes Rentals: The Netflix of Baby Wear!

The Netflix of Baby Wear!

There’s a new trend catching-on with parents in Germany that clothing manufacturers like Carters might not want you to know about. The company Lütte Leihen of Hamburg offers a monthly baby clothing rental service to German parents who are sick of buying baby clothes that their children quickly outgrow.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Parents pay a monthly fee of EUR 17-26 ($23-$35 US Dollars) for a full set of neutral-colored clothing which is mailed to their home
  2. Baby wears the clothing until it no longer fits (which might be a short period of time depending on baby’s age)
  3. Parents mail the original set of baby clothes back to Lütte Leihen
  4. Parents receive a new clothing set (in the next size up) in the mail and they never pay additional fees

You could say it is the Netflix of baby wear! With 100% organic cotton garments in the line-up, this really could be big if it catches on in North America. Babies don’t abuse clothing in the same way that toddlers do, so Lütte Leihen really could be on to something here.

Let us know what you think of the idea of baby clothing rental by posting in the comments bubble above. Would you have used a service like this as a new parent if it was available in your area?

Interesting….I’m not sure if I would do this though because I have friends I share clothes with and vice versa…for free. It is nice that the clothes are brand new though…sometimes when you are sharing, you get some things that are not as crisp! lol!

I’m assuming that Lütte Leihen has an “exhaustive” cleaning process worked into their system. “Crisp” was a nice way to put it, ha!

I think this is a great idea. I was just looking at Tommy’s clothes today and thinking to myself that there should be a bank where we can trade in clothes for the next size up. And then I stumbled onto this.

Also, I did not get the impression that the clothes are “brand new”. I’m sure you would receive used clothes that have been cleaned. I would not have a problem with that if they were straightforward about how they clean them. Also, it looked like it was just basic items, such as onesies and little pants/tights. You still dress them up w/ whatever you want,so it doesn’t matter if they look brand new or not.

    I would so do this!

As a mothers point of view, I think we all love to spoil our first baby, yes we go overboard. I think as the 2nd or 3rd come along (I have not got that far yet lol) my attitude may change a little and want to spend less as they seem to grow out of clothes faster than you buy them.

I would still need to look at the quality of the clothing before I could commit to a program as you mention.

    Thanks:)

I am very interested in that idea. I just had my baby and in 2 weeks she used her clothes just 2 times each one. There is a lot money spending in the baby world, have to say.

Hope to see that initiative here in UK.

    Regards,

This is a great idea. My 6 month old son and he is always growing out of his clothes after about a month he grows so fast!

Seems like a great money-saver, but I would also be curious about the cleaning process. I have many friends and relatives who have passed on their baby clothes, which I gladly accept…and have saved a lot of money that way. But, I know who has been wearing them :)
