Handcrafted Wooden Blocks Made in the USA…No, Really!
October 9th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Books and Toys, Toddler Products, Wooden Toys
Do you ever find yourself wondering what happened to the “good old days” when toys didn’t need batteries? Some toys where known to last more than two days, and unless recent lead exposure has caused my memory to fail…I do remember running across a few that were made in the USA.
I’m happy to report that the “good old days” are back in the form of Alphabet Blocks! Handcrafted in the U.S.A. from basswood, each block is beautifully designed with letters, numbers, and animals for children 12 months and older. These fantastic blocks come in English, French, Greek, Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, and Italian so get them before the Christmas rush. If cool handcrafted blocks weren’t already enough, here’s a shopping tip from your favorite moose. Order your wooden alphabet blocks from il cocco di mamma and you’ll get free gift wrap with your purchase!
Do you know of any other wooden toys out there that were made in the USA? If it’s wooden and American-made, I’d love to hear about it. Click on the comments bubble above to share your wooden toy finds.
By the way, don’t forget to visit again this afternoon for fun Halloween tips and other goodies!
Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ

Dr. Moz, There’s a great online site, http://www.shopforamerica.com that has lots of wooden toys made by American companies. There’s a whole category of wooden toys offering puzzles, blocks, rocking horses, pull toys, banks, games, doll cradles and more. Check it out.

You can try http://www.KidBean.com
They’ve got some nice wooden made-in-the-USA toys that they have carried for years. They have a great deal of organic natural toys for babies and kids.

I’m the owner of GatorTots.com and wanted to add that my site carries the Uncle Goose wooden blocks mentioned above as well as a selection of other American-made wooden baby, toddler, and kids toys.

Nice link suggestions from commenters… perhaps compile a full list of sites selling the wooden block toys?

Hi W. Carson – I recommend double-checking with a retailer (see the il cocco di mamma link above) for the exact measurements, but the set I saw was the standard wooden block size ranging somewhere between 1 3/4 inches and 2 inches.
