MummyWraps: Electro-Magnetic Radiation Protection for Unborn Babies?

I ran across a strange line of clothing called MummyWraps from New Zealand and thought I’d see if anyone was familiar with it. Using Swiss Shield® fabric more commonly used to keep electro-magnetic radiation “EMR” away from those working on radio transmitting equipment, MummyWraps markets itself as “protecting your baby from potentially harmful EMR/Electro-Smog“. The fabric used in the clothing has a fine silver-coated thread woven into it to create a grid-like layer of EMR protection.
Although we are constantly exposed to increasing amounts of EMR through our use of cell phones, microwaves, and other gizmos, I’m not convinced that your average expecting mother needs special clothing “for protection”. On the other hand, those living/working with unusually high exposure (cell phone towers, etc) might find something like this useful. What do you think folks? Is this a scare-tactic used to sell maternity clothing, or are protective garments like MummyWraps ahead of the curve? Let me know what you think by clicking on the comments bubble above.

I think it’s a great idea.
The reason I’ll never have brain cancer is because I wear my tin foil hat everywhere I go. It does a really good job of hiding any gray roots as well.

Surprisingly, electro-magnetic radiation from routers and cell phones actually affects the functioning of the brain. Radio waves change specific brain waves. So a baby monitor might actually be influencing the chemistry a baby’s brain. Maybe there is something to this, but it still sounds a little paranoid.

Yes the amount of harmful EMR/Elecrto-smog is highly increasing in environment and hence to protect ourself from this radiation this equipment is very very useful.

It sounds like snake oil until you do some in depth research and dig out what you’re not being told. The UK government has advised that Mobile phones should not be given to children because there is a risk that the EMF signal can damage ‘developing’ brain cells. A 2002 survey covering over 1million people found that the risk of miscarriage was 5 times greater in properties within 25 metres of high voltage overhead cabling. A further government report claims that the childhood risk of lukemia is 2-3 times greater in the same area. So it’s reasonable to assume from the research that EMF radiation is known to have an effect on developing cells. At what stage in life do you develop most cells, early pregnancy! Ask any parent and tell them that for a reasonable sum and the slight risk of looking a little odd (the style of these garments is not great) they could improve the chances of their childs early development, what would you do? IMHO this is worth doing even if the chances are quite small, just as much as money spent on the best car seat or pregnancy vitamin suppliments.

I find that something like MummyWraps are specifically for those who are within a stone’s throw away from such towers and other areas where Electro-Smog is the pinnacle of a living environment (such as living by the airport or by an array of transformers). I agree that the average person does get his/her share of EMR exposure, but MummyWraps is not too far ahead of the curve. Just consider the pace of technology that has transpired in modern society between the public awareness of the internet to the present day. You have an IPOD sitting by the crib at night playing your baby’s favorite lullabies, cameras that fit into the eye of a stuffed bear to watch them at night while you’re in another room in case they wake up, or even have one’s house wired up to alert you wherever you are (car, work, out with friends) whenever any door is unlocked. All of these devices give off a good amount of EMR. Imagine when the world becomes completely wireless in every aspect: Everything working off of the air. So what I’m trying to say is that EMR exposure will continue to climb as not only technology, but the population increases. More homes will need to be built, more EMR-based devices will have to be made to accommodate the demand, and eventually all clothing will have this type of cloth to be used as a necessity, not a fad.

I truly think it’s a waste of money, and that the people should spend that money you are going to waste and spend it on something the child actually needs like diapers of formula unless you are leaving next to a nuclear plant and see a bunch of five legged dogs running around.

My wife tried loads of different products when she was pregnant most of them did not work
