Stroller 101 (Part 2): Choosing Quality Single and Double Strollers with DaddyDaily.com
October 19th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Strollers, Twins and Multiples, GoodFather Fridays
Today, DaddyDaily.com goes beyond general stroller features and safety tips found in Thursday’s stroller intro to help The GoodFather choose the perfect stroller “he can’t refuse”.
The GoodFather: A lot of GoodFathers focus on baby gear during pregnancy because they enjoy gadgets, and they feel that they have a little more control over gear than they do other issues. It doesn’t take long for some expecting dads to become overwhelmed with stroller possibilities and prices when visiting the crowded mega stores. How did you go about choosing which strollers to stock at DaddyDaily.com?
DaddyDaily: We at DaddyDaily know there are a lot of stroller products on the market for parents to choose. It is important for us at DaddyDaily to touch, test, and feel the products we offer our community. We go to the trade shows talk to the manufactures, pull the stroller out, test them, rough the
products up a little, talk to other parents and form an opinion we think our community would appreciate. Think of it as the “DaddyDaily Approval” on products.
The GoodFather: I noticed that you carry the Baby Planet brand of strollers at DaddyDaily.com. What was it about Baby Planet that convinced you to start carrying their products?
DaddyDaily: We came across Baby Planet among the sea of stroller manufacturers while attending a trade show for infant products. No doubt, there are a lot of quality products on the market for every style. However, Baby Planet really made an impression. Not only are their products impressive, but even more inspiring (yes inspiring) is their mission and values as corporate citizens.
They have a revolutionary recycling program for their industry and they have also partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to focus attention on endangered species around the world. It’s quite a statement from a young stroller company. We talked to everyone they had available - their product designers about how they developed their products and also to the CEO about the company philosophy.
The GoodFather: What can you tell us about double strollers? Beyond holding two children, are there any special features that a GoodFather should look for when choosing a double stroller?
DaddyDaily: As for the double stroller, parents have two options, the tandem or the side-by-side. Both have unique advantages. It’s important for the parents to think about how they are going to use the stroller.
For parents with twins, the side-by-side would be ideal as it allows both babies to recline for those power naps on the stroller. Also, the side-by-side prevents the kicking in the back that one child always receives from the brother/sister sitting behind them and the “I want to sit in the front/back” fights.
Baby Planet offers a great side-by-side called the Unity Sport which has two features that really stand out, one especially for fathers! The two features we really like are the handle and the walking room. Its amazing the pressure you put on your wrists when walking with strollers. For those who have pushed up hills or around the playground (dirt, gravel, or sand) you know the feeling. The Unity Sport handle is great on the wrists as it allows for different hand positions when needed. It’s also very easy to maneuver with one hand, which is a plus.
Now not sure if this next feature was designed just for us Dads, but I like to think so. Walking with the stroller and not kicking the wheels! During the “test drive” there was ample room for my stride and there was no kicking the stroller every other step or doing the side step every other stride. It’s amazing how many other fathers have this issue. It may sound funny, but having that little bit of room made all the difference!
Thanks for dropping by on this GoodFather Friday DaddyDaily. You were obviously the perfect crew for the job, and you are officially a made member of the GoodFather family. I’d like to invite everyone to visit DaddyDaily.com for useful articles and products of interest to all modern parents at www.daddydaily.com.

It was good to find out that Baby Planet has a recycling program. I wasn’t aware of that. I wonder if other brands have started doing the same thing now? Hmm, something else to add to my list of things to look out for while considering a stroller purchase.

About the double stroller…I prefer the side by side double strollers because the baby in the back of the tandem stroller sometimes likes to kick and push baby in the front. It becomes a kick and scream fest at times. Thanks for the well thought out info in this post.

I would have to disagree with ojay on the side by side double strollers and vouch for the tandom stroller because its much easier to stroll in public with the tandem especially when shopping. It’s more convenient for everyone around you as well because people aren’t getting stuck behind you or feel like you are taking up all the the isle/sidewalk or whatever area space.

I agree with ojay, when my twins were growing up, they constanty battled for my attention via kicking and throwing things at each other. As june mentioned it is a pain at times with the double stroller or side by side to block aisles at stores but most people tended not to mind, but I did my best not to block as best I could. Much props about the recycling program, green is in
