Green Gift Ideas: Eco-Friendly Toddler Goodies
November 30th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Gift Ideas, Family Health, GoodFather Fridays
Dear Dr.MOZ,
I’ve decided that I’m giving environmentally friendly gifts this year (no plastic, no lead, no batteries), but I’m having trouble finding fun presents for the nieces and nephews on my list (1, 3, and 5 years) that qualify. They already have plenty of clothes, so what does the GoodFather recommend for fun green gifts? Anything that exposes children to eco-friendly topics would be a big plus!
Happy Holidays,
Ron

Hello Ron,
I have a great collection of eco-groovy gifts ideas for you, but you’ll need to jump to Clever Parents to see the second half of the list. I’ll start with some of my favorite green gifts for toddlers below:
- The Tallest Tree Stacking Blocks: Here’s a cool set of stacking blocks that teaches children about animals, plants, insects, and more with poems and pictures. The blocks stack 3 feet high and are made of durable recycled cardboard.
- 8 Block and 8 Crayon Combo Pack: Your little artist will enjoy the 100% all-natural beeswax (infused with pigment) blocks and large crayons. This great gift is appropriate for children 3 and older and is certified nontoxic by the Art and Craft Materials Institute.
- When Santa Turned Green: If you were looking for a fun way to introduce green thinking to your tot, here’s a great book brought to my attention by my friends at GoodyBlog! Santa updates his workshop with solar power to help fight global warming and save the North Pole from melting. The illustrations are fantastic and $1 of each book sale goes to a green-focused organization.
- Skittles in a Bag: Each hardwood set contains nine 5″ pins, two balls, a carry bag, and instructions for a variety of games. Families with small children will appreciate the fact that they are choking-safe and available with no finish or with natural beeswax polish.
Let me know if you have any other green gifts for toddlers by adding your fun finds in our comments section. Just click the comments bubble above to contribute, and don’t forget to head over to Clever Parents for a few of my favorite green baby toys!
Your favorite family man,
The GoodFather

When Santa Turned Green is a great book and you can read more about it in a review we have on our blog - http://ecolibris.blogspot.com/2007/11/when-santa-turned-green.html. Please note that it is printed in the U.S. with soy-based inks on 100% recycled paper, so it’s actually a super-green gift
Happy green holidays,

Green Gift ideas are great… it’s just a shame you can’t unwrap ebooks… they’re about the greenest item I can think of.

Clever Parents is a great site. My grandkids have received a couple of great toys from there. Where were these when I was having kids?
