Gifts for Teens, GoodFather-Style
December 7th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Gift Ideas, GoodFather Fridays
Dear Dr.MOZ,
The GoodFather’s gift lists have been great, but I need something for teens…and quick! I know that your usual focus is on younger kids, but it’s not easy buying gifts for teens when you are a step-dad. Any “GoodFather-style” ideas that would disprove that I’m the dork that they think I am, would be preferred.
Regards,
Step Dad

Hello Step Dad,
Ah yes, the “dork factor” should always be avoided when it comes to teens. We may be too old to stay with the latest trends, but the classics are always
in style so we will focus on timeless accessories. Here are a few GoodFather-style gifts that your teen won’t refuse:
- Classic Mickey Raglan Tee ($32 Urban Outfitters): distressed style and instantly comfortable.
- Clocky ($50 Spoon Sisters): this alarm clock runs off, forcing your teen to get up to turn off the alarm.
- Tattoo Etched ID Case ($12 Urban Outfitters): holds cash and ID cards with style.
- Fashion History Boxed Set ($49.99 MoMA Store): this double boxed set 25th anniversary edition walks your teen fashionista through the last three centuries in fashion.
- Straw Fedora ($16.50 Anchor Blue): he may not wear this classic to school, but you can be sure that he will wear it sooner-or-later.
- Semi Precious Axe Necklace ($20 Urban Outfitters): because axes are cool…that’s why.
- Run DMC T-shirt ($28 Urban Outfitters): believe it or not, Run DMC is already a “golden oldie” to the teens.
- SPIN Magazine ($9.95 1 Year Subscription): think Rolling Stone, but with a younger/alternative angle.
The gifts listed above may not be the perfect match for the teens on your list, but it’ll point you in the right direction. It could also keep you out of the mall if you order soon, so don’t wait until the last minute this year!
Your favorite family man,
The GoodFather

The Mickey Raglan Tee is a really good idea. Im thinking of buying this for my brothers children. Should be a nice gift. The Spin magazine sounds promising and cheap so might give that a go aswell. Thanks for the list.
