Yoga Gift Ideas for your Little Yogi!
December 17th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Family Health, Gift Ideas, Healthy Kids
Not being someone that practices Yoga…I’m not exactly the “go to” moose when it comes to the topic, but I had to learn more when our friends at Boston Mamas featured lotuspad. I have a few little Yogis on this year’s gift list, so I thought I’d do some research to see what else is out there. Here are just a few of the fun baby and toddler gift ideas that I found:
Baby and Toddler Yoga Gift Ideas
- YogaKids DVDs: Created by the award-winning creator Marsha Wenig, YogaKids DVDs “1″, “2″, and “3″ help give children confidence and help build self-confidence through learning yoga fundamentals. ($13.49 each at Yoga Site)
- The Yoga Pretzel Set: 50 yoga cards come in nine categories help the entire family practice breathing, stretching, and relaxing. Kids will like the Mr. Pretzel toy with his own yoga mat to help visualize each pose. ($25 at Uncommon Goods)
- Lotuspad Mats and Carry Straps: Here’s a fun collection of yoga accessories made just for kids. Their eco yoga mats are made from TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) which is a healthy substitute to PVC which is used in manufacturing most yoga mats. Add a handmade (in USA) carry strap and you have quite a fun yoga-themed gift set! (both available at the lotuspad store)
- Lotus Yoga Omsie: That’s not a typo, it’s actually called the “omsie”. This baby bodysuit also comes in a t-shirt and both make fun gift ideas for the future yogi on your list! ($21.95 at Little Buddha Baby)
Click on the comments bubble above to post a review of one of these fun yoga gift ideas, or share your own favorite yoga finds that I may have missed!
Have fun and stay healthy,

Dr. MOZ you have a great list. I would like to add http://www.JustMyMat.com that sells only eco friendly yoga mats. The greatest part is that you can personalize them with your name.

Great list! I think there is no better way to enrich a child’s life than give them knowledge of healthy ways of living. Raising kids this way will likely bestow a lifelong love of being healthy and staying healthy. As a Reiki practioner, I have always tought my children to focus on themselves and most importantly…listen to your body! Thanks,
-Rachel

In the generation where kids games are sedentary, this is great gift. Great post.

These gifts are so cute! The yoga cards are a great idea too, children are much apt to pay attention to individual cards then a yoga book written for an adult.

Thanks for such a nice blog . I would recommend a online resource its a small yoga dictionary (Sanskrit-English). If you are a Yoga practitioner, or are thinking of becoming one, this excellent guide to Yoga introduces you to the main concepts with concise translations from transliterated Sanskrit into English.

I love the idea of yoga baby cards. Many doctors are pushing the yoga thing for young children.

These are great gift, I especially like that I can get my kids involved in yoga at an early stage of there life. Now if you can keep their attention then this is a great product.

I also want to point out a few of the items that really sparked my attention when I took a 2nd look:
- I purchased the Yogi Pretzel Set for my brother in West Virginia since they have 3 kids being home schooled (by their mother who is a certified teacher via master’s degree). Instead of having the kids spend their recess time playing video games, she started using this 2 weeks ago. The results thus far was pretty spectacular because they’re all (as a family) go through each card and practice each technique between 10-20 minutes each. They are almost half-way through the cards since my sister-in-law is trying to have them not only learn the moves, but be able to go into a specific technique/position on-command. Not only is it extremely good exercise-wise, but it inadvertently is teaching them to center themselves in such a way that it gains positive influences in other facets of their young lives (baseball, softball, golf, bowling, running, etc.).
- The Lotus Pads and Carry Straps I purchased for 2 of the kids (purchased my niece something more geared towards girls from Sanuk). My sister-in-law also went out and purchased them flip-flops and a few new age CDs to really get them into the mood (based on a DVD she purchased). It’s really stunning how they are agreeing with the beginning Yoga training. This coupled with their parents actively engaging in the activities an hour a day M-F is really amazing considering they were never interested in Yoga before.

This looks like a great list of products. I think getting kids into yoga early is a great way to help them with problems as they get into their teenage years.

This site has opened my eyes to gift giving and yoga, I’ve always put yoga in the “Health” class but I guess it can also be a gift as well after all, look at all the benefits yoga brings that no store can provide.

There are all kinds of teachers and classes so I can’t say what you’ll take away from it but there is a whole spectrum of things that yoga does to help you enrich your lifestyle and help you feel good about yourself. Your body simply follows the well-being of the mind so if you really stretch your limits you will have that perfect form that you achieve for all the while maximizing your thinking power.
