Make Your Own Baby Food

Dear Dr.MOZ,

My wife and I decided to cut down on the prepared foods and begin cooking our own meals as a New Year’s resolution. The goal is to eat healthier and spend less money. Our little guy has been on solids for a few months now, but we’re uncertain about how to cook and store our own baby food. Do you and the GoodFather have any resources to help point us in the right direction?

Happy New Year,
Dad x 2

Hello Dad x 2,

I’m impressed that your New Year’s resolution is already underway in December! I can see that you are a GoodFather on a mission, so here are a few

useful resources to help get you started:

  • Wholesomebabyfood.com: This is one of the best free resources you’ll find. They offer food charts, baby food recipes, and many useful tips that will answer many questions about preparing and freezing baby food.
  • The Pregnancy Show: Sometimes it helps to see the process, so nutrition consultant Lianne Phillipson-Webb shows you just how easy it is in this video.
  • How to Freeze: You won’t need this very often, but the National Center for Home Food Preservation’s guide on freezing food is a nice resource to have in your bookmarks.
  • Baby Cubes: This is one of a few popular baby food containers on the market. You should always make sure that your containers are safe to freeze and microwave because some plastics leech under these conditions. Baby Cubes claims to be made of inert Virgin Polypropylene materials suitable for the job and ISO certified.

The links above should be more than enough to get you started, but et us know if you find additional resources of interest by clicking on the comments bubble above. I know that we have many other readers that would be interested to know what you find. Thanks for the great question Dad x 2!

Your favorite family man,

The GoodFather
