The Business of Being Born – Share Your Review with Dr.MOZ!
January 23rd 2008 by Dr.MOZ in Movies and Media, New Parents, Pregnancy
A large number of Dear Dr.MOZ readers are soon-to-be parents and many others are actively involved in educating parents (doulas, midwives, this means you), so I thought I’d remind everyone to keep an eye open for The Business of Being Born (view movie trailer) . Directed by Abby Epstein and produced by Ricki Lake, this documentary explores how Americans have adopted the “medical model” to childbirth and compares it to alternative options like birthing at home. Select screenings are located at the following theaters:
- Jan 18-24 Roxie Cinema, San Francisco, CA
- Jan 26-27 Laemmle, Santa Montica, CA
- Feb 17-21 Circle Cinema, Tulsa, OK
- Feb 29-Mar 6 Siff Cinema, Seattle, W
If you don’t happen to be located in one of these locations there are many community screenings scheduled across the US, or you could host your own screening as many childbirth educators and related groups are doing.
Please click on the comments bubble above to advertise your screening of The Business of Being Born, or to share your review. I’d love to hear what you think!
Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ

Hi Jan – I couldn’t find an EU screening schedule, although they do have a note mentioning that DVDs can be leased for a community screening outside of North America. I recommend contacting them through the website to see if see if anyone has a screening planned in your area.

I have a gift basket and gourmet foods website with gifts for the new baby. A video would be a great asset and new gift offering. Thanks for the info.

As a male who is always interested in news and info on this subject, may I say that this is a refreshing change, from the previous doom n gloom merchants, who made giving birth make the Spanish Inquisition look like a sunday picnic. If only more people had this view of such a beautiful natural act.

Hi ‘Plus Sized Gowns’ – I think you might want to tell her to stop reading…it’s a movie. On that note, comments that are obviously seeking improved search engine placement will notice that their posts and/or links aren’t included. Just a friendly reminder from your favorite moose.
