CPSC Recalls (Jan 25 - Feb 6): Sweatshirts, eeBoo Sketchbooks, Teethers and more

Today’s entries to the hall of shame include recall warnings posted between Jan. 24th and Wednesday, Feb. 6th. We’re warned of everything from choking hazards to lead
contamination dangers, so please review each title below:
- Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts Recalled by Seventy Two Inc.; Sold Exclusively at Nordstrom Stores (Due to Strangulation Hazard) The garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children.
- Children’s Sketchbooks Recalled by eeBoo Corp. (Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard) The paint on the sketchbooks’ colored spiral metal bindings contains excessive levels of lead violating the federal lead paint standard.
- Children’s Toy Gardening Rakes Recalled by Downeast Concepts (Violates Lead Paint Standard) The paint on the gardening tool hand rake contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal standard on lead in paint on toys.
- Baby Sterling Silver Teethers Recalled by Elegant Baby (Due to Choking Hazard) The hearts and cars on the teethers can break off, posing a choking hazard to infants.
- Girls’ Hooded Jackets (Due to strangulation hazard) The jackets have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
- Baby Einstein Baby Neptune ™ Soothing Seascape Crib Toys (Due to Choking Hazard) The anchors that hold the straps to the back of the turtle can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.
- Toy Wooden Block and Train Sets Recalled By Christmas Tree Shops (Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard) Surface paint on some pieces of the toys contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
