SWINXS – Coming to a Kid Near You!

Swinxs Game Console

There’s an interesting new game console that may be coming to a kid near you. Unlike most game consoles that keep players chained to a tv screen, Swinxs was designed to be used outside in groups. The battery-powered unit has a variety of outdoor games that it

referees while keeping track of players’ performance by using colorful wristbands (with hidden microchips). It can also give quizzes, read audio books, and play music. The media features make the Swinxs flexible enough to DJ an outdoor dance party and then move the group inside for story time indoors. Games vary by age, and can be continuously updated by downloading new releases at swinxs.com.

So, what do you think folks? Is this a positive step forward in toy technology, or does it push us one step closer to the HAL 9000? You’ll have plenty of time to decide because it’s only available in Dutch department stores, but something tells me that the Swinxs find it’s way to North America soon. We may see it in the form of Elmo or SpongeBob SquarePants, but we haven’t seen the last of the Swinxs.

Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ

Interesting – I am going to actually have to get a set. I live on the Dutch border so shouldn’t be that difficult. Will update you after we have had it for awhile.

Does anyone see anything wrong with that, or is it just me?

Why do nearly all toys have to be electronic ? What ever happened to just playing with a ball or flying a kite? I think there is a danger of children loosing their imagination. Children learn by doing and not having things done for them all the time. A lot of these toys make our children too passive I think this is a very sad thing.

I give this idea a thumbs up. I will give most things that will encourage in person group play a thumbs up. These days young kids are in front of the computer all day and the only “socializing” and “interaction” they have is by the internet.

anybody here know of a good site to find more info on free kid games? I’ve got this site bookmarked and i’m gonna keep checking it out, but i still would like to find a site that covers free kid games a little more thoroughly..thanks

Oh bother, as Winnie the Pooh would say. Now I hate to sound like an old fuddy-duddy….wait a minute, I AM an old fuddy duddy and proud of it. You young parents should not be allowing ALL play to be technology-based. I agree with bh, for goodness sake, just let the kids play with a ball. Get out there and toss ball with them. Is that the reason for the popularity? Another toy that allows the parents time away from the kids?

I cannot see that a product like this is going to replace standard gaming consoles. There is a stronger focus now more than ever on games that encourage learning, and modern consoles offer a lot more than a chain for children. For some it’s a lot safer than playing outside!!!
I do like the fresh air concept of products like this.
No doubt there will be a wii treadmill and fresha ir fan released soon :o )

I think that sounds pretty good and could be a very useful type of toy for kids who really are always pluged into a technology thing. I might send a few people from my blog this way so they can read about it. Thanks
