3 Great Books for the First Doctor Visit

I received a tip from a LiveSmarter writer/editor about their useful post 38 Tips to Keep Your Kids Entertained and Stress Free When Seeing a Doctor, so I thought I’d pass it along. Tip number six “Read a book about going to the hospital” was particularly useful

so I wanted to suggest a few favorites.

  • Time to See the Doctor: This colorful 24 page picture book is a useful introduction for the youngest (baby-preschool) patients. They’ll learn about everything involved in their first trip to the doctor’s office from the waiting room to the drugstore.
  • Franklin Goes to the Hospital: You’ll find quite a few books about first-time doctor examinations, but few tackle a longer hospital stays. In this great book, your child will learn everything there is to know when Franklin goes in for an operation after cracking his shell.
  • Froggy Goes to the Doctor: Here’s another good choice to help your little one prepare for a checkup. Forggy is a little nervous at first, but everything works out when he gets a treat in the end. If that’s not enough to convince you, Froggy forgets his underwear…and what toddler doesn’t love a comedy involving underwear?

This might not be useful at the moment, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have one in the collection considering many hospital visits are unplanned. Let me know if you have a favorite doctor book or a good “first time visit” tip by clicking on the comments bubble above.

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Berenstain Bears have a good one about going to the doctor in their “first time” series. I think there’s a version for the dentist too.

I thought this book was really good. I think it’s really good for someone who needs to go to the doctor, but is afraid to go. I also think this book is good for someone who likes Rugrats and has just begun to read on their own!

My grandchildren watch Mr. Rogers, and he put out a series of books about going to the dentist, going to the hospital, going to the doctor. Since the kids know Mr. Rogers, the books are an instant hit!
