Backyard Camping Gear!

Today’s post is for those of you who like the idea of exploring the great outdoors, but just aren’t in the mood to hit the road in search of the perfect camping spot. Here’s my prescription for next weekend’s big camping trip in “the great backyard” with the family.

  • S’Mores Maker: What camping trip is complete without s’mores? Believe it or not, you can now make them at home using this microwaveable s’mores maker. (US: Amazon for $6.95)
  • Play Tent and Tunnel: Why buy a tent when you can purchase a tent and play tunnel in one? They’ll fight over who gets to sleep in the tunnel, so you may need a few rounds of “rock-paper-scissors” to determine who sleeps there first. (US: $59.95 at CreativePlay4Less)
  • Wind Up Camp Light: You’ll love the flexibility of this LED wind-up camp light. Use it in place of a camp fire while telling stories under the stars, then switch it over to the ‘nightlight’ mode for tent use. This little beauty runs for a full thirty minutes with only 60 seconds of cranking! (UK: £19.95 at I Want One of Those)

Are your little campers fond of roughing it in the backyard? If so, click on the comments button to share your family’s favorite backyard camping activities!

Have fun and stay healthy,

I rermember as a child how exiting it could be to have a tent in the yard. Must try this again with my kids! :-)

That’s some really cool camping gear. Thanks for the great ideas.

That S’mores maker looks interesting. For a while, my family couldn’t afford to go on vacation, so we’d have backyard “camping trips.” We’d make S’mores in the oven by placing a graham cracker, a piece of chocolate and a marshmallow on a piece of tin foil – then baking at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. It works and it tastes like the real thing.

I like your dynamo (wind-up) LED tent light. I have a little LED flashlight that lightweight and which works well for me when I’m camping, but a little LED camping lantern would be great as well. Where do I get one?

  7. Justin Says:

Although we usually go camping out in the woods I like the wind up light. I also like Scully’s idea about making s’mores in the oven.

that would be a great addition for when we go camping, the kids are always complaining that we don’t start the fire soon enough!
