Baby News: Baby Boom Balderdash

July 30th 2008 by Dr.MOZ in Baby News, New Parents

Baby Boom Balderdash Hey folks! Did you hear about the latest baby boom sweeping the nation? As everyone with a chin cleft and a TV camera will tell you, a recent CDC report shows that a record number of baby births (4,315,000) were recorded the US in 2007. This amounts to 15,000 more than the peak of the baby boom explosion in 1957. To help illustrate this massive new wave of humanity for news reports, children are being stacked to hospital ceilings around the country. It’s being called the beginning of our “next big baby boom” and I have three words for all of them….balderdash, bunk, and let’s not forget gibberish.

In 1957, the average American woman had four children. Compare this today’s American mother which has an average of two children. The reason for last year’s “record breaking” number of baby births (note: air quotes were also used while typing this)…the total US population. In 1957, America’s total population was approximately 175 million. The population in 2007 was much higher at just over 300 million people which

explains how we managed to have 15,000 more babies, even though the average American woman has half the number of children today. I hate to burst the baby boom bubble, but it looks like we’re having a perfectly average number of babies for our current population.

Please come back to the baby blog soon everyone. I’m working on a controversial new post which may include the word “poppycock“, so you wouldn’t want to miss that!

Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ
