FDA Reverses Position on Fish, Dr.MOZ Approves Responsible Balancing of Fruit
December 15th 2008 by Dr.MOZ in Health News, Healthy Kids, Pregnancy
In case you missed Friday’s announcement, the FDA reversed their previous stance on fish consumption by pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children. Once thought to be a risky food due to mercury levels, the FDA now reports that the health benefits of eating more than 12 ounces of fish a week outweighs the potential risks. The EPA calls the FDA study “scientifically flawed and inadequate.” The new FDA advisory has not yet been approved by the White House.
In related news, I released a controversial report on Sunday which reinforces previous findings regarding pregnant women and fruit balancing. I stick to my original position
that the practice of balancing fruit is “still probably okay, when practiced responsibly.” The FDA has not yet responded to the announcement, but inside sources tell us that the EPA has once again slammed my position on fruit balancing as “unfounded quackery from a moose.” My response to the EPA’s alleged comment was “hey, take it easy.” Inside sources tell us that the EPA’s response to my rebuttal was “no…you take it easy.”

Thanks for the kind words Thenoenkz! I’m not really sure what fruit balancing is all about either. For some reason, over half the pictures you’ll see of pregnant women in ads include them balancing fruit…usually an apple. Perhaps our pregnant readers can help us unwrap the mystery of fruit balancing.

Good post. But I’m so tired of the FDA and other agency’s flip flopping on these topics. I find it interesting that the FDA can possible claim the fish supply is safe for women when we have had several breakdowns in our inspections in the past year!
