GoodFather Fridays: 7 Signs You are a GeekDad
December 19th 2008 by Dr.MOZ in Fatherhood, Geeky Fun, GoodFather Fridays
Dr.MOZ’s Stork Tools daddy diaper bags received a fantastic review on Wired’s GeekDad blog yesterday, which inspired me to dedicate today’s GoodFather Friday to all the GeekDads out there. As the GoodFather, I’ve come to understand that many fathers out there don’t actually know that they are geeks. To help these misguided dads come to terms with their true identities, I present:
7 Signs You Are a GeekDad
1) The first thing you think of when viewing the “Stork Tools” daddy diaper bag logo (as shown above) is the rebel alliance…and not a stork.
2) You worry that your kid might grow up and choose to use a different platform than you.
3) You already have your babysitter scheduled to watch the kids for May 5th, which of course is the first showing the new Star Trek movie. Note: If you didn’t know there was a new Star Trek movie showing in 2009, you’ll will need to know to what the “T” in James T. Kirk stands for to qualify as GeekDad.
4) Your baby has clothing with techie jokes (“iPoo’d”, “Goo Goo”) inspired by Google, Apple products, Intel, or Linux. Chances are, it was given to you at a baby shower by friends that understand that you are a GeekDad.
5) You have a special box full of your old D&D stuff that you plan to give to your children one day. Note: If you can’t decipher “D&D”, you probably aren’t a GeekDad. Please continue to the 6th sign below to be sure.
6) You spent five or more minutes in Photoshop inserting your baby into a screen shot of a video game, or a virtual world. Sorry, no exceptions to this one.
7) You once made your baby a very small cane…to make his/her Yoda outfit “more realistic.”
So there you have it…the very first public service announcement by The GoodFather. Thanks again to the Ken and the other GeekDads at Wired, and may the Stork be with you!
Your favorite family man,
The GoodFather

I’m sure my husband will qualify on this his already preparing for our baby’s first video game, and I can do nothing about it. Boys will be boys.

If the kids are playing Runescape every possible moment, even as far as trying to play 2 accounts at once, are they becoming geeks?

Heh…it took me a full year before I figured out how to read the 4-sided die. I use to add up all the numbers at the bottom face to determine the result and correlate it to the 1-4 value. Can I still be a Geek?

It seems like I’m a geek dad, too! I have a 4-year old son and I asked a tailor to make a custom-made start trek costume for my son last Halloween. I guess my little boy has followed my footsteps because he now loves to watch star trek movie at home with me. My wife can’t watch her favorite TV drama series anymore because my son and I plays the movie all over again…LOL…how geeky is that?

LOL! That was really funny…I never thought that you have the official 7 signs of Geek Dad. I think my husband would qualify to numbers 1, 2 and 4.
