Is the Colim the Future Family Wagon?

Is the Colim Tomorrow's Family Wagon?

I run across quite a few concept cars that look cool, but it’s rare to find one that serves a real purpose. Christian Susana’s Colim on the other hand, looks like something that today’s families could actually use. The camper-like living space in back of the Colim provides the functionality of a motor home, but the cockpit in front can be instantly detached to transform the family beast into a small sports car. The miniature wheels and other design details might seem a bit odd to today’s American drivers, but apply this same “flexible car” concept to a modern SUV or minivan and I think we could have a winner!

What do you think folks? Would you pay a little more for a modern wagon or SUV with a detachable cockpit/car? It seems like the best of both worlds to me!

Have fun and stay healthy,

It´s a very good design and it does look pretty cool, but to me it looks a bit hard to get in and out of!! When you´ve got kids, you just want to pile them into the car and not have to worry about fancy glass doors etc. On the whole – a great design but I don´t know if I would ever buy one! Who knows what the future holds for the car world!!

True, I think the Colim concept car could be a little unrealistic…but what if you could drive the front portion out of a minivan, wagon, or SUV like a Chevy Suburban? I’d love to see what Volvo engineers could do with an idea like this!

wow that car is very powerful and a double function. if it does not utilize a lot of parking places because of the small body and the car is a car-friendly environment because we can use to open areas in the camper. can be placed in the car class for the concept of the minivan and SUV car can be a choice for small families and you do not need to pay for expensive car!

That’s a really good idea, and I think it would be the perfect minivan and SUV in one, but I don’t know if I ever like the design. I think it’s much too futuristic, and I guess it looks a bit unrealistic. Car designers should do much more cars like this.

It’s a nice design for a great concept. Minivan and SUV in one is a totally great idea, which should be reality. So hopefully this car would be build soon. I would love to buy one of these.

that thing is amazing! at first i thought it just looked too hilariously “futuristic” (the way “the cars of the FUTURE” always looked in experimental car photos of the ’50′s and ’60′s…) to be taken seriously, but the fact that it’s two different cars in one made me change my mind……

  8. Sarah Says:

I would buy one. I prefer driving smaller cars, but sometimes I do need the space. So, it’s perfect for me.
