Fun Furniture for Kids: The Trad Shelter

The Trad Shelter

Indoor forts can be great fun during winter months, but they tend to take up half the house which doesn’t make for very long lifespans. Designers Josué Gamonal and Vicente Porres of Madrid have found a way around the messy fort dilemma with their award-winning design the Trad Shelter. Part furniture and part fort, the Trad design has a built-in reading light and comes with cozy pillows for quiet time. Clean-up is a breeze for kids of all ages thanks to the Trad’s overhead canopy. I’ll be sure to post an update once I’m able to locate a store carrying the Trad, because that’s a design that parents and kids will love!

Have fun and stay healthy,

looks cool will probably be too expensive, forts were fun to make as a kid, my favorites were the big boxes you got with new appliances

That is a great idea! My boys always loved making forts outside in the summer, but this is great for kids in the wintertime. I wish I had thought of it!

This is a great idea (although will be a little expensive me thinks) but some things are just worth paying extra for and when you have boys at home in the rain then this will definitely be worth it!!!

Thanks for posting some photos. Its a very unique design and very stylish. This would be very fun to play inside the bedroom, especially when its cold outside.

That is a very cool bed and I know kids would love playing around it. Some of the greatest memories I have when I was a kid was when me and my buddies would build forts and play house. We usually did that pretty cheap using card board boxes as we lived behind a furniture company and actually had old furniture to throw in our houses. I really like your idea, keep me updated on it!

My little girl would love this. I can see it becoming a forest and hang little birds and leaves etc. off those branches. What great pillows too, the first thing I thought of was frogs probably because they are a vibrant green and look like rocks. How wonderful that they are odd shapes. With a little imagination kids will transform this into many things.
One thing I’m not sure of though is whether it would be safe for a kid to sit on it? Do you know if you can?

That is a nice idea for kids. My wife has been going crazy finding furniture for our kids. She recently wrote a post on my blog about it if you want to check it out.

My husband and I had the same experience when we trained our little girl to sleep on her own when she turned 4, but before she turned 4 I already made her comfortable in small ways at first to teach her that she doesn’t need to be scared in her room. I had her do projects in her room each day and had her do them alone to get her used to being in there by herself. And let her choose her own bed, desk, a chair and her own dresser, these we got at a great price at http://www.simplykidsfurniture.com/ We love the items we got and paid a great price. And when we told her she will be sleeping alone so she can enjoy and take care of her stuff and have privacy doing her projects she agreed, with one condition though that I will read her a story every night as she falls asleep. I think I can live with that fair condition.
