Baby Knows Shoes
September 1st 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Baby Shoes, Development, Family Health
According to a recent piece in the New York Times, a sub-culture of high-performance runners are beginning to learn what the majority of baby shoe manufactures have known all along…less is more. Running barefoot or nearly barefoot with thin, flexible shoes is thought to reinforce proper biomechanics unlike many running shoes that allow athletes to
repeatedly slam down on their heels.
Much like developmentally appropriate baby shoes, running with thinner shoes (or completely barefoot) helps runners land gently with their feet under their torsos while building strength in all the muscles in their feet. Competitive athletes aren’t yet releasing what other secrets they’ve learned from their baby counterparts, but don’t be surprised to see Nike’s new full-sized reflective onesies running through a neighborhood near you.
Have fun and stay healthy,

Wow, looks very comfortable. I wonder if it’s even more best to use this to jog other than any running shoes out there. But I simply think it’s best for just walking.

Interesting to know that runners learn from baby shoe manufacturers. Hope you will come up with more information like this. Thanks for sharing this information.

That’s amazing how nature is smart. Millions in product development and the solution was already there.

I’ve been wondering when these shoes were going to take off. I’ve been reading about these finger shoes for a while.

Wow I have only just found out about these shoes,
How clever are they.

I would imagine that you would have to learn how to run a whole different way. More on the balls of your feet instead of the heals.

Those shoes must be comfortable.

I can see why soft, flexible shoes are good for newborns but I have to believe that the more cushion you can get (without altering your gait) between your feet and the hard asphalt pavement has to be the way to go. I’m not a podiatrist or an osteologist so my opinion is just that, an opinion. But what about arch support and heel spurs? My house slippers are thin isotoners, but my running shoes are Nikes and I can’t imagine managing without them.

Wow that is an amazing product I run all the time and would love to try those shoes out and see how they compare with my own running shoes!

Those look really good. And they’re a very good option for little kids who are beginning to walk on asphalt…
