Lolaloo: Rocks Strollers and Cribs
October 13th 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Cribs, Sleeping, Strollers
Nine out of ten babies agree that being rocked in a gentle, continuous motion helps them fall asleep. Rocking is easy to do, but light sleepers are known to wake up the second the rocking stops so what should parents do? A German-based company claims to have the answer with their battery-powered gadget Lolaloo. To install a Lolaloo, you simply attach it
to a crib or stroller using Velcro straps (available in black or white straps) and turn it on to create a gentle side-to-side swaying movement.
Of course, there’s always a catch with clever products like this and Lolaloo has a few. First, you’ll need to attach Brio bed rockers to each of the four crib posts (available at Lolaloo.com) if you intend on using them in a standard crib. This probably wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for most parents, but I thought I should mention it because you won’t get much rocking action with most wooden cribs without them. The second catch is, they are only available in Germany. Their website says they’ll begin shipping globally soon, so I recommend revisiting their site in the next 3-4 weeks to see if global shipping has been launched.
So what do you think about this Lolaloo gadget parents? They appear to be featuring their use on strollers, but something tells me that the American market would prefer to use them on cribs. In a perfect world, they might even come with your crib as an accessory. Let me know what you think by typing in the text box below.

You are absolutely right. A lot of babies want to be moving when they sleep, and for this your suggestion will very useful.

Ha ha ha, Lolaloo really looks very good. It will surely help more kids sleep more. Thanks for sharing this. I will surely check it out.

How great. I wonder how much it is now?

Interesting idea, and I’m sure there are parents out there who would love to have these but it seems like it would create an unhealthy dependence on being rocked to sleep.

That’s a good point Chris, I thought the same thing when first running across the Lolaloo. When featuring baby gadgets like the Lolaloo, I have to assume that most parents would understand that constant use of any motorized product wouldn’t be a successful way to establish a healthy sleep schedule. On the other hand, it probably won’t be an issue with the Lolaloo considering (a) it’s only available in Germany, and (b) at today’s exchange rate (1 euro = 1.49 USD) it would cost over $192 not including shipping. That’s about $162 above what your average American would spend on a product like this…that is, unless Oprah gives it a ‘thumbs up’.

Looks interesting! And I would tend to agree with Chris’s comments.
What really worked for us was using a CD of (would you believe) the sound of clothes dryer. We had a whole CD of all these different sounds, but the only sound that worked was the clothes dryer – unbelievable!
It worked a treat for both our kids when they were babies.
Just my two cents worth.

With our first baby we didn’t sleep for about 6 months. Our second one about 4. It may look a bit funny but if it was available a couple of years ago we would have tried it! Even a few nights’ sleep would have been worth the money, if it works! Who knows if it does, though. I suspect if you could buy it from a local store with a good return policy a lot of people would be willing to try it. I also wonder whether something like that may reduce the chance of SIDS.

I saw a variety of movement oriented seat devices at the recent ABC Kids convention in Las Vegas. It has become a very popular sector of the baby industry and must be a useful function or there wouldn’t be so many on the market. Its a great idea to just be able to purchase the rocker device as an add-on as opposed to an expensive crib or cradle that comes with the motion built in. This looks to become a very successful product.
