Baby Food Recall: Plum Organics
October 20th 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Family Safety, Organic Products, Recalls
Plum Organics voluntarily recalled a small number of 4.22 oz Apple and Carrot Baby Food in Portable Pouches sold individually at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us locations nationwide. Please return any package of Plum Organics Apple and Carrot baby food with the numbers “890180001221” located at the bottom of the package. A mixing error was
blamed for the recall (increasing the risk of botulism), but no illnesses were reported at the time this post was released.
Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ

Thanks for the update. This is the first I’ve heard of this.

I’m glad you found it useful Cindy. Luckily, Plum Organics has been very proactive by identifying the mixing error and voluntarily recalling the questionable products on their own. Hopefully, this will be the only batch that needs to be recalled.

Thanks for the info. This is really a great help as public awareness is concern.

Thanks for the info. But I wish they can tell what the mixing error was. It’s just more scary knowing there was something that went wrong but don’t know exactly what it is. I was just a reading an article about a product being organic and another being 100% organic and that they are supposedly different. And now, an organic product with a mixing error. Organic products are becoming complicated than they should be.

@ Nova – If you shoot over to PlumOrganics.com and click on “Recall Information” button, a letter from Gigi the founder explains it in more detail. Apparently, a routine test determined that the formulation was incorrect when mixed which caused the scare and prompted the voluntary recall. Thanks for the comment Nova!

Pretty responsible of them to do a volunteered recall, considering they did a few test on the batch and “all samples were found to be within the standard guidelines”. Guess you have to be safe rather then sorry especially in the USA.

It is nice to see a company that is truly concerned with its customers well being and coming forward on their own without being forced to

Thanks for the super important information about this baby food! I would never want to accidentally give my baby food that had been recalled and thanks to the company for recalling it before a baby even had the chance to become sick from it!
