Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street!

November 4th 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Movies and Media

If you’ve run a Google search lately, you probably learned that Sesame Street is celebrating 40 seasons on air on November 10th! I couldn’t let Big Bird’s birthday pass without a shout-out to everyone on 123 Sesame Street, so here’s a best of collection starting from their 1969 debut.

What is your favorite Sesame Street memory? Do you prefer watching classic episodes from the Bert and Ernie days, or have you adopted Elmo into the family? Share your Sesame Street stories in the comment box below.

Enjoy!

My kids love anything Sesame Street and they adore Elmo. I don’t mind him but I prefer the good old days when Bert and Ernie and Grover had larger roles. These days they’re just supporting characters to Elmo.

  2. Luigi Says:

Wow! Happy 40th! I love the classic Bert and Ernie days, but I love Elmo also. My favorite memory about Sesame Street is that I watched it because my Aunt was suggesting it. I was like 3 years old I guess, and she was like, “You should watch Sesame Street because you’ll definitely learn something from that show.”

My favorite episode/scene, is when Elmo’s plays his piano and sings with his fish. They’re so cute.

Sesame Street was such a big part of my childhood. My own children, on the other hand, couldn’t have been less interested. Strange, huh? I guess Sesame Street, Electric Company and Captain Kangaroo were the only kid’s shows on then, and now they have so many choices.

  15. Jane Says:

I just love Sesame Street. In fact, I happen to see the show sometimes with my nephews and nieces. It’s been quite a long time but still the show is up and running and now, at its 40. I guess quality shows are not easily taken for granted after all.

I personally love every scenes with Elmo and Dorothy on it. Plus the scene where Elmo tries to talk with a baby and plays the piano with the same tune every time. It’s pretty cool Google doodle has featured a number of Sesame Street photos. I wonder if that’s their plan or they just couldn’t decide. Happy birthday..Sesame Street.
