Blog Feature: My Parents Were Awesome

November 25th 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Blogs, Holidays, Parenting

There’s nothing quite as funny as seeing our parents in photos long, long before they had kids. It can be hard to imagine our parents living footloose and fancy-free, but make no mistake my friends…they too were awesome before you came around. If you don’t believe me, just visit My Parents Were Awesome and I think you’ll see what I mean.

Something to keep in mind while you are posing for pictures with carrot sticks in your nose isn’t it? Have a great time with the family this holiday weekend everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What a great post just before Thanksgiving. My parents are 600 miles away from me in Florida. I guess a phone call and pics have to do. Thanks!

It’s a really nice idea to create a site like this. Good to know that our parents were doing crazy things, too… the pics are the proof!

He is definitely on to something. Glazer has received over 3,000 photo submissions in the little over two months since the site’s launch and he jokes that he might have to hire an intern to keep up with all of them. The site has also received a decent amount of media coverage. I first heard about the site on NPR’s show All Things Considered and later read a post about it on their blog. Fox News and ABC News have also interviewed Glazer about the site.

I love my parents too. The picture of your dad on the motorbike is a particularly cool image. It’s funny how we never think of them as having there own lives before they gave it up to bring us up!

  12. Nigel Says:

I came across this by chance – just at the moment my parents are helping me quite alot, so its nice to remember that they have always been there for me.

  13. Susy Says:

I remember when I was about 12 when I suddenly realized that my parents hadn’t always been parents. I couldn’t imagine them before us kids were born! Weird. And hearing what they got up to was fun. Now I’m a parent too this post brings it back to me that you need to make the most out of every day as you never know what’s round the corner.

  14. Pa Says:

Great idea…I must admit, my mom was always cool to me, she had this friendly, straight, no BS attitude and I respected her a lot for that.

  15. Jeez Dee Says:

I saw my parents old photos when I wasn’t yet born..and they are really cool…

  16. July Says:

Is strange to think of my parents as cool, because they are parents, but looking at the pictures, I have to say they had their share of fun and adventure.

  17. Stephen Says:

My parents are always cool for me. They are the best, I thank God for giving them to me. They had their time, share of fun and enjoyment.

  18. Jeff Says:

I’ve been frequently checking the photos of my parents when they were still at their teenage years and I just couldn’t relate them from whom they were before and who they are now. It may seem strange though. I think I’ll be saving all my photos for my children to see someday.

  19. Ian Says:

This is really fun! My mom and dad will surely love if they’ll see their old sweet pictures posted! Good to know that our parents did something wacky before too.

  20. Maxi Says:

You know, it’s so sad that our parents are cooler than all of us during their generation. And you look at them today, and you say, “how is that even possible.”

That isn’t an insult or anything. We all love our parents. :)

  21. Lloyd Marsha Says:

I saw something about that on TV last night.

  22. Oliver Says:

My parents are 6000 miles away from me in Australia. I guess a phone call and pics have to do. Thanks!

That’s so cute. I want my parents to be on that site. It’s my way of saying thank you for bringing me into this world. Why is it old pics seem to be funny? lol.
