Baby Name Audits: Suri the Pickpocket?
December 10th 2009 by Dr.MOZ in Baby Names, New Parents
Do you think Tom Cruise and Katie Homes knew that their daughter’s name “Suri” means ‘turned sour‘ in French when naming her? It sounds like a perfectly good name to me, but Suri also happens to mean ‘pickpocket‘ in Japanese and ‘horse mackerels‘ in Italian.
Soon-to-be parents interested in checking global translations before choosing a final baby name might be interested to know about name audit services offered by Today Translations. For 1,000 British Pounds (approximately $1,627 USD) 2,6000 linguists will run your prospective baby names in 100 languages. Humm…I wonder what “MOZ” means in Estonian?
Have fun and stay healthy,

I am laughing, needless to say!
Many of our Indian names are the names of Gods! My name Vikas means development/progress but I will not be surprised to find some other meaning if I am willing to pay 1000 pounds some day!

I thought we were being unique when we combined the names of two ancestors to create my daughter’s name, Evanina. Turns out it is also a French band….

LOL. I didn’t realize that. I don’t know how Katie and Tom would feel on this. Anyway, I think I’ll be checking my name and wonder what it means. I just hope I’ll find something good in it.

I better choose a traditional name for my kid (to be on the safe side) rather than spending 2000 British Pounds. LOL …. after all, what’s in the name?
Thanks for the post. It’s a good one.

LOL, very funny story indeed! Would be a great post to list all the weird names people give their babies. A friend of a friend actually named his new born son ‘Harley’ (and this is not an English speaking friend). They don’t even own a Harley Davidson!
