Save your iPhone 4, Buy a Leapster Explorer!
June 7th 2010 by Dr.MOZ in Tech and Web, Toddler Products
Did you hear today’s big announcement about the new high tech handheld device hitting the market? No, not the iPhone 4 announcement…I’m talking about LeapFrog’s Leapster Explorer baby! Designed for four to nine-year-old kids, the Explorer features online play
allowing for “learning app” downloads, video streaming, and the largest touch-screen offered by LeapFrog yet.
I’ll admit that the advertised “four-year-old” target seems a little young for a high-tech gadget like this, but on the other hand you might be smart to hand the little guy a $69 Explorer if it keeps him away from your new $299 (32GB) iPhone 4. To learn more about the Leapster Explorer, visit the official product website at www.leapfrog.com/explorer.
Have fun and stay healthy,

This may just be what I am looking for – my toddler is driving me crazy and loves all electronic stuff. Thanks!

When I was a kid we didn’t have all these fancy gadgets, we went and played outside with the other kids. Now with all these new toys, I’m afraid my little brother will never go out of the house anymore to play. lol

I’ve always been a little hesitant to let my 4 year old use my iphone for games. This is something worth trying.
thanks for the info.

@ Michelle – I’ve heard of parents establishing rules that electronic gizmos can’t come on in the house when there is still light outside. You might as well cut the TV time down with gizmos use, not their exercise time.

My daughter has just turned 3, and at a Thanksgiving get together she was paying very close attention to a cousin who had one (the cousin is 4). She never asked to play with it, but she sat down next to the cousin and watched intently. I’m wondering if all the games would require her to use the buttons or if there’s one that would be very simple and only require the use of the touch screen. She’s very into Dora the Explorer right now. I’ve also been told by more than one kindergarten teacher that she is advanced for her age and it would be fine, but I don’t want to push something onto her she may not be ready for. Thanks!

Cool gadget. I’ve been thinking of what birthday gift to give my daughter. I think that this is the perfect one for her.

My 2 year old uses my iPhone for games and frankly, I don’t think there’s anything that will beat that. He is very quick to find his way around, switching the phone on, finding his favorite word game and drawing with his finger. I think only the iPad will be better due to its larger screen. It’s time LeapFrog to start developing apps for these devices, that would be awesome.

Okay that looks totally awesome, but my kids just got the leapster 2 for Christmas. I hate to buy new ones so soon. We limit our kids leapster use to restaurants, long car rides, or when we are doing something very important and new a few minutes to be left alone. It definitely is not in their toy box, and they have to ask for it.

@ Clinton – They actually are developing apps according to their demo. LeapFrog mentions “learning apps” which are apps in that they are stand alone games that can be independently downloaded and used on the mobile device. Hard to beat an iPhone though…if you are brave enough to let our kids use them that is!

I need one of these to save my old iphone 2g! My daughter would love it.

No iPhones for my 5 year old. A playstation or wii would be enough. He is so much playful he breaks things easily.

The new iphone looks pretty cool!

I will be buying my kid a leapster soon for sure!

Cool Device! Going to check it out and maybe get one for my niece. She was always wanting to play with my digital camera (which made taking family photos difficult), so we bought her a KidWiz camera. She’s only 4, so doesn’t quite have the concept of it, but has a grand time taking photos with the rest of the family – hers are usually of the ground or her feet, but she has a good time.

Very nice to know!
I hope I will be able to buy one like that for my little son!
Thanks!

As a mother I could have this toy for my kid rather than buy an iphone for myself.
