Baby News: Baby Monitors Recalled, Baby IKEA, Toddler Skinny Jeans, more…

…and now we go to our Chief Infant Correspondent to bring us this week’s baby news.

 

  • Baby IKEA: Inspired by the Swedish furniture store, parents in the UK named their baby girl “IKEA” . You might think this was unusual, but Nancy.cc gives us the stats to see just how many baby IKEAs are out there. (more at Nancy.cc)
  • Acetaminophen Tied to Asthma:  A large cross-sectional study showed that the use of acetaminophen was associated with asthma in 13- and 14-year-olds. (more at MedPage Today)
  • New Dad Jailed: A 31-year-old Utah man became a brand new dad, groped a nurse in the hospital, and was sentenced 180 days in jail. (more at Standard-Examiner)
  • Baby Tweets: Congratulations to Alanis Morissette (@morissette) and Neil Patrick Harris (@ActuallyNPH). Each announced their baby news on Twitter, and Neil Patrick Harris is expecting twice the fun with twins!
  • Skinny Jeans for Toddlers:  You read that correctly…the baby industry has finally gone off the deep end and followed the denim diaper craze with skinny jeans for toddlers. (more at TIME)
  • Baby Monitors Recalled: Levana baby monitors recently announced a recall due to overheating and smoking monitors (more at CPSC)

    These were pretty amazing stories. Did it happen in just one day? I haven’t heard any of these before. Thanks for posting. But the one that fascinates me the most is “Skinny jeans for toddlers” I can’t imagine the babies wearing the jeans. Will they be comfortable in this? I want see the babies wearing the skinny jeans…=)

    Not all in the same day, but it did all happen in the same week. The Skinny jeans phenomenon was strange enough for adults. I haven’t actually seen toddlers out in the world wearing them yet, have you?

    Who would really call their baby IKEA? Well according to these stats, somebody! I wonder what posses people to name a child after a store though.

    @ Ste – I still know many people who have never been to an IKEA. I suppose it’s possible that some people just think it’s a nice Swedish name and don’t associate it with a store…I’m just brainstorming here. ;)
