Baby Names: Kick to Pick iPhone App

April 12th 2011 by Dr.MOZ in Baby Names, iPhone Apps

Choosing a fitting name for your baby was once a tedious task, but now you can let your unborn baby do the work thanks to Kick To Pick!  App summary according to designer Nathan Parks:

“The idea for Kick to Pick came from a discussion about baby’s choices and the fact they had no influence over the name they go onto keep for the rest of their lives. What started out as a light-hearted chat soon turned into a series of app ideas and we’re delighted with the finished product we’ve designed. It’s light-hearted, good fun and a great way to involve the whole family in what is a key milestone of a child’s life.

Although we’re far from reading a baby’s mind, we can read their movements and our app will use these tiny kicks and prods to bring another opinion into the naming debate, we’re just hoping it doesn’t cause any arguments along the way!”

In the off chance you aren’t ready to let an app randomly choose your child’s name from the thousands within it’s boy/girl database, Kick To Pick also allows expecting parents to create a short list before handing the job over to the nearborn. Download Kick To Pick today at iTunes, or learn more by visiting KickToPick.com.

Speaking of names, how did you go about choosing the names for your children? Did you use family names, find them in books, or discover them in the Baby Name Book within The GoodFather gift CD-Rom? The only thing I love more than sneaking-in a link to a Dr.MOZ daddy gift is a good baby name story, so share yours in the comment box below!

Have fun and stay healthy,

um Im not so sure i like this idea! Its very cleaver but i enjoyed choosing my boys names yes it was difficult and hard to agree on but that’s all part of been a parent! I don’t think i would ever use it but im sure their are many who would!

  2. Poppy Says:

I agree with shirley. The method we used was for me and my husband to list down our favourite names separately, and when we were finished, come together to compare the two to see if there were any we both wrote down. We actually plumped for one which was only on my list, but as soon as he heard it, he loved it!

I’m sure other people would find this app useful though.

My child’s names are easily taken
    john, kiki , sam

  4. nike Says:

My father choose the name for me and he said when I was born, he picked up a dictionary and opened randomly, and then there was my name.

  5. Dr.MOZ Says:

@ Nike – Based on that, I think it’s safe to say that your dad would have loved the Kick to Pick iPhone App. The big advantage it has over the dictionary…the randomized word is guaranteed to be a name! ;)

  6. Orange Says:

My name is Orange. Do you think it is a cute nick name for kids?

  7. Jane Hart Says:

I do agree with Shirley. Part of being a parent is picking your kids names. But it might give some inspiration :-)

  8. Ray Says:

@ nike – It is really a dangerous strategy… I assume your father has been joking because imagine what your name might have been after a random search in a dictionary. :)

  9. adnan Says:

The app offers thousands of gender-specific names, and it also lets you create your own list of favorites. Once you have your list, the mother-to-be lies down and places the iPhone atop her “baby bump.” Your phone scrolls the list until it detects movement from the unborn child, then stops on a name…thanks

@adnan – It’s not everyday we get a review more complete than the original post within a comment! ;)

It’s just a name generator based on the kick from the baby. You don’t have to accept the name. But if it’s a name both parents like then it’s kinda fun that they got it that way.

  12. Bruce Says:

Hahahaha! This is great!! I mean, I’m not going to name my child Napoleon just because iPhone told me to but it can be fun. And it’s a great way to take the stress of your wife with a little fun! It is great for uncertain soon to be parents if they are having trouble choosing between a few selected favorites. Anyway, great fun! :)

  13. Lawana Curreri Says:

My grandson forwarded this to me… thank you!

  14. Uman Says:

Bruce i agree with you that we can’t name our children what iPhones tell us because it’s too funny.

  15. Jack Says:
