It’s GoodFather Friday baby fans, which means that today’s post is dedicated to dads…or should I say dudes? There’s a new dude at Casa de Dude (yes, “Little Dude”) and DudeKnowsBest.com was launched to document the dude’s weekly dad-related lessons.

The Dude Knows Best blog in the dude’s words:

“A Dude and his young family navigating through life’s experiences, enjoying the flow, abiding where necessary, and surfing as much as possible.“

I think it’s worth noting that the dude is an ordained Dudeist Priest and is available for weddings. Religious services aside, Dude Knows Best has a great cast of characters (check out Little Dude’s mohawk!) that makes for an entertaining blog worth visiting.

Being an animated character with a line of daddy gifts named after me (gift CD-ROM, daddy T-shirts), I tend to get a lot of dad-related questions from people. One of the most common questions comes from new or expecting mothers wanting to know what my favorite “dad blog” is. I’m not sure if they ask because they’re hoping to find a resource for the soon-to-be dad in the house, or if they were just hoping to sneak a peak at life through a

father’s eyes. Some people seem to be looking for parenting tips and others seek sentimental moments (of the daddy variety) listed in chronological order. I don’t know how to tell you this, but I really don’t read these kinds of blogs.

The blogs that I do read regularly, might not be for everyone. I read blogs written by guys that question their own parenting skills, don’t like their jobs, drink beer, drop F-Bombs, and occasionally write about topics other than kids. In the off chance you’re still reading this, here are two of my favorites:

Wow, I just ran into the Tessell on Babygadget and had to share the find. It’s a fun mat/ride-on/puzzle combo from Korea that comes in an 18 piece pack (foam pieces= 6 horses, 6 chickens, 6 turtles). After a little digging around, I learned just how late to the game I am with my Tessell “discovery”. In a Daddy Types feature (from September 2008) Greg informed me that the Tessell won a Kind + Jugend Innovation Award, and it

appears that the Tessell was displayed at the 100% Design London Festival late last year. Humm, looks like I better hit the festival circuit this year (and super-glue Greg’s hotel door closed) to beat him to this stuff in the future.

The Tessell would be a hit in the US, and to be honest…I’m amazed that boutiques around the country aren’t already jam-packed with knockoffs (I mean innovative new designs with totally different animal shapes). It seems like a no-brainer for one of the many “Baby Geniusy/ Brainish/ Einsteiny” brands doesn’t it? Until then, I’m afraid that you’ll have to find someone that speaks Korean to help you place your online order at Lotte.com. Remember where you saw it last!

It’s GoodFather Friday which means that it’s time to feature something just for dads!  This daddy feature was launched by two fathers Pete Janelle “Peetej” and Joe Schatz “Joeprah” to help make the internet an overall better place for dad bloggers.  It’s a well-designed site with a growing forum (around 270 members), reviews men actually care about (that’s right, beer), blogger features, and they even have a small section for moms. This GoodFather Friday I’m featuring the newest member of Dr.MOZ’s GoodFather Dad Group Directory the NYC Stay-at-Home Dads Meetup Group! They consist of 59 dads (stay-at-home dads, part-time home dads, freelancers, etc) that meet during the week at local museums, parks, and other fun city locations. The New York City Stay-at-Home Dads

Dr.MOZ’s Stork Tools daddy diaper bags received a fantastic review on Wired’s GeekDad blog yesterday, which inspired me to dedicate today’s GoodFather Friday to all the GeekDads out there. As the GoodFather, I’ve come to understand that many fathers out there don’t actually know that they are geeks. To help these misguided dads come to terms with their true identities, I present:

7 Signs You Are a GeekDad

1) The first thing you think of when viewing the “Stork Tools” daddy diaper bag logo (as shown above) is the rebel alliance…and not a stork.

2) You worry that your kid might grow up and choose to use a different platform than you.

3) You already have your babysitter scheduled to watch the kids for May 5th, which of course is the first showing the new Star Trek movie. Note: If you didn’t know there was a new Star Trek movie showing in 2009, you’ll will need to know to what the “T” in James T. Kirk stands for to qualify as GeekDad.

4) Your baby has clothing with techie jokes (“iPoo’d”, “Goo Goo”) inspired by Google, Apple products, Intel, or Linux. Chances are, it was given to you at a baby shower by friends that understand that you are a GeekDad.

5) You have a special box full of your old D&D stuff that you plan to give to your children one day. Note: If you can’t decipher “D&D”, you probably aren’t a GeekDad. Please continue to the 6th sign below to be sure.

6) You spent five or more minutes in Photoshop inserting your baby into a screen shot of a video game,  or a virtual world. Sorry, no exceptions to this one.

7) You once made your baby a very small cane…to make his/her Yoda outfit “more realistic.”
