A collection CPSC recall warnings were released, so I wanted to help spread the word because they include nearly 100,000 dangerous baby products and toys. Recent recalls include:

Phil & Teds Sport V2 and Classic V1 Strollers Recalled to Repair (Amputation and Laceration Hazards): The three-wheel, single-seat jogging strollers have a metal frame, cloth seat and a canopy. The sport v2 model stroller was sold in red, orange, green, black, charcoal, navy and in graffiti print. When folding and unfolding the stroller, a consumer’s finger can become caught in the hinge mechanism, posing amputation and laceration hazards. (see more about specific models)

Family Dollar Stores Recalls Remote Controlled Toy Tanks (Burn Hazard): This recalled product is the Authentic Heroes Target Practice Tank play set, a remote-controlled green toy tank attached by a cable to a grey battery-powered controller. The controller is marked “Target Practice Tank Play Set.” The tank’s controller can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers. (see more about specific models)

Butterfly Push Toys Recalled (Choking Hazard): The recalled toy is plastic with a 21-inch long handle hooked like a cane. At the end of the handle is a butterfly with two movable 1 1/2-inch balls in each wing. The plastic balls on the butterfly’s wings can break, causing small metal balls inside to come free. These metal balls pose choking and aspiration hazards to young children. (see more about specific models)

Thanks for stopping by the baby blog and don’t forget to let other parents know about the recent recalls!

It’s true, Bugaboo will finally be releasing their first double stroller in 2011! The name “Donkey” is a little odd for a high-end Dutch brand known for sophisticated design, but it looks like a fantastic stroller so I’ll do my best to ignore the name choice. Stroller features

and details include:

the elegant-looking stroller that is sure to cost more than your first car is called Donkey…sorry, I’ll try harder.

the “mono” to “duo” design allows parents to easily convert the stroller from a single (23? wide at the wheel base) to a double (29? wide).

much like the famously stubborn domesticated ass known to carry multiple small children at a time, Bugaboo’s Donkey can hold up to 37.5 pounds in each seat.

cargo can be held in the expandable shopping basket (from the side) or in the basket under the seat.

unlike your standard donkey which regularly stands for long periods of time for no particular reason at all, Bugaboo’s Donkey only stands when folded.

expected release, Spring 2011

I’m not sure why Bugaboo is claiming to have created the world’s first convertible single-to-double stroller (iCandy beat them to it with their “Peach Twin” line), but Donkey will certainly be a popular stroller by the looks of it! I’m looking forward to giving a Bugaboo Donkey a spin when they reach the US in 2011, how about you?

Although I’d prefer to highlight quality baby products, the CPSC has released two major recalls in the last 24 hours which shouldn’t be overlooked including:

Graco Recalls Strollers (1.5 million units, due to fingertip amputation and laceration hazards): The hinges on the stroller’s canopy pose a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is opening or closing the canopy. This recall involves Graco Passage™, Alano™, and Spree™ Strollers and Travel Systems with the following model numbers and specific hinge mechanisms (recalled models)

Dorel Asia Cribs Recalled (635,000 units, due to strangulation and suffocation hazard): One infant death reported, 10 injuries to infant. The drop side hardware can fail causing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. (recalled models)

Be sure to check the model numbers if you use Graco strollers or Dorel Asia cribs because there were far too many recalled styles to fit into our graphic above.

Have fun and stay healthy,

If you have multiple young kids in the family, you’ve probably spent a huge amount of time looking at double strollers. There really isn’t much to choose from when it comes to double strollers for infants (a topic for the near future), and there’s even less

available for double umbrella strollers for older kids. Here’s the standard umbrella stroller dilemma. Should you:

(a) go with a front-to back design where one kid will spend the day kicking the other in the back? (or)

(b) choose the infamous side-by-side (aka “double-wide) design? Note, this option is perfect for blocking doorways regardless of the number of kids actually riding in the stroller.

Ben Gray from Gray Matter Inventions says neither. Check out his video above to see his ingenious, patented fold-up stroller design. You can’t buy one yet, but Ben is looking to license the design to a manufacturer so it’s just a matter of time. Bravo Ben!

Have fun and stay healthy,

diaper bag systems to adjustable handles (so dad won’t need to hunch over), the only limit is your wallet. Before going to the baby store with credit card in hand, I recommend learning the fundamentals with Joie Tamkin of Baby Earth. She’ll walk you through the basics from “travel systems” to wheel-types, and the info just might save you a little dough when you are ready to buy.

I hate to start the week out with a recall warning, but today’s Maclaren recall includes approximately one million units so I wanted to help get the word out. Maclaren has received 12 reports of fingertip amputations in the United States due to a hinge mechanism in the following models of single and double umbrella strollers sold from 1999 through November

Of course, there’s always a catch with clever products like this and Lolaloo has a few. First, you’ll need to attach Brio bed rockers to each of the four crib posts (available at Lolaloo.com) if you intend on using them in a standard crib. This probably wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for most parents, but I thought I should mention it because you won’t get much rocking action with most wooden cribs without them. The second catch is, they are only available in Germany. Their website says they’ll begin shipping globally soon, so I recommend revisiting their site in the next 3-4 weeks to see if global shipping has been launched.

So what do you think about this Lolaloo gadget parents? They appear to be featuring their use on strollers, but something tells me that the American market would prefer to use them on cribs. In a perfect world, they might even come with your crib as an accessory. Let me know what you think by typing in the text box below.

I’m often asked by expecting parents for stroller recommendations and my answer has everything to do with (1) how it will be used, and (2) much they would like to spend. I found a fantastic deal on a high-end stroller today, so I thought I’d share the recommendation because you simply can’t go wrong with the Mutsy Urban Rider stroller. It goes from a

simple frame to an adjustable stroller (position baby facing front or back), and it has a car seat feature with every accessory you could imagine. You’re not done yet because it also holds a bassinet, a duo seat can be added for a second rider, and did I mention that it collapses down to a perfectly flat cube for storage?

Quite frankly, the Mutsy Urban Rider stroller has too many features and accessories to mention in a single post so I’ll just let you see it for yourself. If you’re looking for a quality stroller that will last through multiple kids and has everything but the kitchen sink, head over to Mercantila.com which currently has the best price I’ve ever seen at $575 with free US shipping in the lower 48 states. Now that I think about it…it does have a dinner tray, but I’m not yet aware of a kitchen sink feature in the US model.
