It’s true, Bugaboo will finally be releasing their first double stroller in 2011! The name “Donkey” is a little odd for a high-end Dutch brand known for sophisticated design, but it looks like a fantastic stroller so I’ll do my best to ignore the name choice. Stroller features

and details include:

• the elegant-looking stroller that is sure to cost more than your first car is called Donkey…sorry, I’ll try harder.
• the “mono” to “duo” design allows parents to easily convert the stroller from a single (23? wide at the wheel base) to a double (29? wide).
• much like the famously stubborn domesticated ass known to carry multiple small children at a time, Bugaboo’s Donkey can hold up to 37.5 pounds in each seat.
• cargo can be held in the expandable shopping basket (from the side) or in the basket under the seat.
• unlike your standard donkey which regularly stands for long periods of time for no particular reason at all, Bugaboo’s Donkey only stands when folded.
• expected release, Spring 2011

I’m not sure why Bugaboo is claiming to have created the world’s first convertible single-to-double stroller  (iCandy beat them to it with their “Peach Twin” line), but Donkey will certainly be a popular stroller by the looks of it! I’m looking forward to giving a Bugaboo Donkey a spin when they reach the US in 2011, how about you?

Stroller 101: Choosing Quality Single and Double Strollers

There was yet another stroller recall in today’s involved the Ruby, Onyx, and Topaz models of CYBEX umbrella strollers. The stroller’s hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is folding and unfolding the stroller.

Owners of these strollers in the US and Canada are urged to stop using the strollers and contact Regal Lager to receive a free hinge cover.

If you have multiple young kids in the family, you’ve probably spent a huge amount of time looking at double strollers. There really isn’t much to choose from when it comes to double strollers for infants (a topic for the near future), and there’s even less

available for double umbrella strollers for older kids. Here’s the standard umbrella stroller dilemma. Should you:

(a) go with a front-to back design where one kid will spend the day kicking the other in the back? (or)

(b) choose the infamous side-by-side (aka “double-wide) design? Note, this option is perfect for blocking doorways regardless of the number of kids actually riding in the stroller.

Ben Gray from Gray Matter Inventions says neither. Check out his video above to see his ingenious, patented fold-up stroller design. You can’t buy one yet, but Ben is looking to license the design to a manufacturer so it’s just a matter of time. Bravo Ben!

Maclaren has received 12 reports of fingertip amputations in the United States due to a hinge mechanism in the following models of single and double umbrella strollers sold from 1999 through November

There’s a new European baby gear manufacturer on the scene that you’ll want to know about and it’s name is Mima. I know…you’re probably thinking that I’m about to tempt you with yet another well-designed, feature-rich baby product from Sweden that you can’t buy in the US. This simply isn’t true. These well-designed, feature-rich baby products are from

Spain. Mima’s “pushchair” features include:

Kobi: 3-position reclining seats, adjustable height positions for seat/carrycot, adjustable handle, removable changing bag, car seat adaptable, folds with and without seat, coverts to hold multiple children.

to a crib or stroller using Velcro straps (available in black or white straps) and turn it on to create a gentle side-to-side swaying movement.

Of course, there’s always a catch with clever products like this and Lolaloo has a few. First, you’ll need to attach Brio bed rockers to each of the four crib posts (available at Lolaloo.com) if you intend on using them in a standard crib. This probably wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for most parents, but I thought I should mention it because you won’t get much rocking action with most wooden cribs without them. The second catch is, they are only available in Germany. Their website says they’ll begin shipping globally soon, so I recommend revisiting their site in the next 3-4 weeks to see if global shipping has been launched.

So what do you think about this Lolaloo gadget parents? They appear to be featuring their use on strollers, but something tells me that the American market would prefer to use them on cribs. I’m often asked by expecting parents for stroller recommendations and my answer has everything to do with (1) how it will be used, and (2) much they would like to spend. I found a fantastic deal on a high-end stroller today, so I thought I’d share the recommendation because you simply can’t go wrong with the Mutsy Urban Rider stroller. It goes from a

simple frame to an adjustable stroller (position baby facing front or back), and it has a car seat feature with every accessory you could imagine. You’re not done yet because it also holds a bassinet, a duo seat can be added for a second rider, and did I mention that it collapses down to a perfectly flat cube for storage?

Quite frankly, the Mutsy Urban Rider stroller has too many features and accessories to mention in a single post so I’ll just let you see it for yourself. If you’re looking for a quality stroller that will last through multiple kids and has everything but the kitchen sink, head over to Mercantila.com which currently has the best price I’ve ever seen at $575 with free US shipping in the lower 48 states. Now that I think about it…it does have a dinner tray, but I’m not yet aware of a kitchen sink feature in the US model.

I’ve featured carrier bicycles in the past, but bike designers keep coming up with cool new bikes…so I’ll just keep on showing them. Two new family-friendly designs include:
