Go Draw on the Wall Kid! – Cool Chalkboards Your Kids Will Love
August 30th 2007 by Dr.MOZ in Artsy Fartsy, Childrens Rooms, Fun Projects
Dear Dr.MOZ,
Our toddlers seem to be bouncing off the walls day and night…except for when they are drawing or painting. My husband and I love the downtime (as limited as it might be), but we usually end up paying the price with a lengthy clean-up afterwards. Any ideas on how we can maximize our kids “art time” while minimizing the mess?
Yours,
Katherine

Hi Katherine,
I have just the thing for your little artists, chalk! There’s almost no mess compared to paints and pens, and there are quite a few fun chalkboard designs out there. Here are a few ideas that I think you’ll love, but don’t forget to check the comment bubble above for great ideas from our readers as well.
Chalkboard Animals: There’s not a lot of things more fun than getting
away with writing on the wall…except for writing on an animal, on the wall! Each set of safari chalkboard animals comes with 6 animals including 2 elephants, 2 rhinoceros, and 2 giraffes. A super-cool way to play and found at pokkadots!
The Chalkboard Table Top: Now this one will take a little more “financial dedication”, but don’t forget that Offi’s Chalkboard Table is more than a table…ummm, it’s also a chalkboard. I suppose you didn’t need the explanation for that one did you? The durable chalkboard surface will last for years, and you’ll love the bowl found at the center designed for storing chalk and erasers. Available at SPACIFY.
Chalk-a-Dots: Certainly one of the coolest art ideas on the market Chalk-a-Dots are a Dr.MOZ favorite. They come in packs of four 18.5″ dots and each have a low tack adhesive that allows it to be moved and reused. A truly awesome idea for any kids room and sold exclusively sold at Modernseed!
Chalk: I know what you’re thinking, chalk is too dusty. Au contraire mon frère…chalks are much better now than when we were kids. Check out the fantastic price on “Dustless Chalk” at the link below. You read it right…you can pick it up for a measly $1.25 a box, so I recommend that stock-up with a few boxes because they’ll go through it fast. Available at Creative Kidstuff.
Thanks for the question Katherine and don’t forget to send us a picture their first Dr.MOZ chalk-drawings!
Have fun and stay healthy,
Dr.MOZ

I think chalk is what got me interested in drawing as a child as my grandparents would turn over the entire asphalt storage area outside their shop to me. Having a 50 foot by 50 canvas was a child’s dream come true.
When my niece and nephew visit me know I keep the tradition alive and hand over the chalk and turn them loose on my 12 foot by 40 foot drive way.
Good call with the chalk!

I LOVE Chalkboards too..and there’s this cool chalkboard tee handmade in Brooklyn that I came upon. They’re chalkboard tees that the kids and adults can write/draw and erase. It even has a cool chalk pocket! I would definitely check them out.
